Map
If it's your first time in the 'burgh and you're planning on spending time there on either side of the wedding, we'd recommend checking out:
Christmas Market
The Christmas Markets will be in full swing and are defintely worth a visit for hot chocolates, mulled wine and traditional Christmas-y fare. There's usually a few traditional fair rides to enjoy as well along with an outdoor ice rink usually nearby.
Camera Obscura
Just down the road from Edinburgh castle (on the Royal Mile) is this gem of an attraction with heaps of interactive illusion exhibits. We recommend the mirror maze and optical illusion bridge. Caution - should not be undertaken when hungover.
Old Town
Old Town is our favourite area of Edinburgh and is where we lived during uni after moving out of halls. There are some beautiful buildings, great coffee spots, pubs and restaurants and endless cobbled streets. We recommend wandering down to Grassmarket for a drink and a hog roast bap from Oink via Flodden Wall (access from Keir Street) for some amazing views of the castle. Bring a coat!
Edinburgh Zoo
What better time of year to go to see some Penguins at Penguin Rock - need we say more? Giant Panda exhibition is also worth a mention to be fair.
Vaults Ghost Tour
Underneath the Royal Mile are a series of creepy vaults - test your bravery by going on a ghost tour underground with your jumpiest friend. Afterwards, reward yourself with a wee dram of whiskey to settle your nerves!
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh castle dominates the skyline from Old and New Town alike. It's definitely worth your while to have a look around, but if you don't have the time it's still worth heading up to the forecourt for some great views across the city (weather permitting).
